What about all the wars and other evils done in the name of
religion?
The
incompatibilities of mankind's
various religious faiths have often led to conflict
between those of differing beliefs. One glance at recent
headlines out of the Middle East will make that plain.
Even those who claim the name of Christians have
sometimes twisted the teachings of the Bible to justify
a lot of strange and occasionally evil ideas. But the
Bible doesn't teach those ideas; indeed, it strongly
condemns them. Jesus said "Love your neighbor," not
"force him to convert and destroy him if he refuses."
Most of the "Holy Wars" in human history have actually
been about gaining earthly power and infuence, not
defending the faith. The fact that people may have
misused the Bible as a pretext for evil doesn't turn the
truth of what it teaches into a lie.
